Hitting low shots under the wind 1. When setting up I like to see people stand a little open to their target as this will help the lower half of the body lead first (correct sequence), if the top half leads the ball will inevitably finish left. 2. Place the ball back in your stance. This enables the club to come into the impact area with much less loft. 3. Add a fraction more weight onto your front foot, encouraging a slightly steeper impact position, this help to stop the club face turning over. 4. Take much more club than normal and cut down the backswing length, this gives more control of the swing, more importantly shorter backswing with more club reduces backspin creating a much lower flight. 5. Saw of the follow through. By doing this, it helps the ball stay low with less back spin. 6. With regards to club selection, I hit my 8 iron 170 yards, I will however hit my 8 iron from 100 yards into the wind using the afore mentioned technique, I know there is no way the ball can climb too much using this club, the ball flight might look a bit strange only about 10 – 15 feet off the ground but it works don’t be afraid to hit more club! |
